Charter an Expedition with Adventures By HIP
Adventures By HIP, founded in 2017, has been a provider of Whale Watching & Marine based Eco-Tourism in the Sooke region for 6 successful seasons. During this time we have logged thousands of hours & thousands of nautical miles, combing the Strait of Juan de Fuca for cetaceans.
Starting May 2024, the Adventures By HIP team will be permanently set up in the Esperanza Inlet, between the communities of Tahsis & Zeballos. This remote, but accessible location was specifically chosen due to the close proximity to the continental shelf break in comparison to other locations along the west coast. Esperanza Canyon, Kyuquot Canyon & Crowther Canyon are productive fisheries, & are within 1-1.5 hours travel from our outpost. The shelf break along this stretch of the coast is only 15NM from the shoreline.
These submarine canyons, as well as others along shelf from Switfsure Bank to Haida Gwaii, are the target areas for a variety of fishers both commercial & sport. Anecdotes from fishers who frequent these areas report gatherings of "hundreds of killer whales" and "other (unidentified) whales & dolphins" feeding in these areas.
Chartered expeditions will be available to all institutions, government sanctioned researchers & NGO's interested in exploring this area.
The Vessel is fast, and the Shelf is close!
These two factors alone make our operation ideal for research & survey applications, but the cost of operation when using a rigid hull inflatable for near shore operations makes our proposal ideal for both government & NGO research initiatives.

Our vessel will be ready to go on a moment’s notice, allowing for frequent & spontaneous trips whenever weather & sea conditions are ideal for surveying. Accommodations are currently available in both Tahsis & Zeballos but will soon be available onsite at our outpost. This means nights can be spent comfortably on land before heading back out to sea during daylight hours!
